Exploring some After Effects drawing and painting tools

You wouldn't expect that After Effects would have drawing and painting tools, but there are actually a few very powerful options. Let's have a look at a couple.


Motion Sketch panel

The Motion Sketch panel allows us to record a motion path that is drawn on the stage in realtime. In this video, we use Motion Sketch to create the animation path for an animated drone.


Paintbrush tool

After Effects' paintbrush can be animated over time. In this video, we use the paintbrush tool to simulate a street art stencil effect. Apologies to Haha.


Roto brush tool

The Roto Brush tool is kinda After Effects' version of the Quick Selection tool. You can select areas of focus with a paintbrush, to cut objects from their background. In this video, we create a short ident using transparent video made with the Roto Brush.
