Creating a vinyl record mockup with editable label art in Photoshop

Mock of vinyl record sleeve creating in Adobe Photoshop

Part 1

Part 2

Simon demonstrates how to create an editable album cover mock-up from scratch in Photoshop:

  1. Create a new 1000x1000 pixel composition.

  2. Make the vinyl component:

    • Fill with black and add noise filter

    • Apply radial blur for groove effect

    • Adjust levels to enhance contrast

  3. Create shine effect:

    • Use gradient tool with reflect gradient

    • Apply perspective warp and adjust opacity

  4. Add center label:

    • Create shapes for label and center hole

    • Use masks to refine the record shape

  5. Add emboss effect to the background for a 3D look

  6. Convert label to a Smart Object for easy artwork placement

  7. Import and position artwork within the Smart Object

Part 2: Simon continues the mock-up creation process:

  1. Clean up and organize layers

  2. Resize canvas to 2000x1500 pixels (3:4 aspect ratio)

  3. Create a record sleeve shape layer

  4. Add background color

  5. Create shadows for depth:

    • Behind the sleeve

    • On the vinyl record

  6. Add reflection effect:

    • Duplicate and flip the record group

    • Adjust opacity and mask for realism

  7. Insert artwork into the sleeve Smart Object

  8. Finalize the mock-up:

    • Duplicate cover and label layers

    • Group elements for easy updating

  9. Demonstrate how to update the mock-up with new artwork

The process results in an editable, reusable mock-up template for showcasing album cover designs in a realistic vinyl record context.
